CARE MINISTRY

Stephens Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a lay care giving ministry that supplements pastoral care. The program teaches laypersons to provide one-on-one care for individuals who request support.

The confidential care-giver and care-receiver relationship, usually conducted by weekly visits, may continue for months or years. Reasons for requesting a Stephen Minister’s visits may range from grieving the loss of a loved one, experiencing a major illness, going through a divorce, job loss, struggling with substance abuse, or other life difficulties.

Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their commonality? A passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need. Stephen Ministers are trained by their congregation’s Stephen Leaders. The training they receive in the congregation equips them to provide high-quality care to people who are hurting.

Compassionate Threads

This group began meeting in January of 2013. The purpose of the group, in the beginning, was to start a prayer shawl ministry. The shawls were given to those with joys and concerns. The talents of the group members were extended to teach kitting and crochet to those who would like to learn. Soon the needs for other projects became know to the group. We made baby caps for newborns, caps and scarves for the homeless. We invite anyone from the community to join us in participating in this Velda Rose Mission project. Work meetings are Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in room 609.
